WA 2012

We scored some great conditions down in Marrawah over a couple of weeks. It was awesome to chill out and get in the water nearly every day.

I had a really enjoyable holiday up on the Great Barrier Reef with plenty of windsurfing, fishing and snorkelling. We also scoped out some nice looking waves on the outer reef to try and hit up next time.

I visited the world famous Punta San Carlos, in the desert of Baja Mexico staying at the SoloSports camp for a few weeks. We had plenty of great days with long, smooth waves and only a few people to share it with.

Over January 2012, we drove from Victoria to the South Coast of WA - racking up 15 000kms and scoring some awesome sessions. Conditions fired with some monster swells at Margaret River and super clean secret beachies down south.

The days before the annual SHQ Sandy Point Melbourne Cup event were blessed with strong cross off winds and fun waves. Unfortunately the wavesailing conditions were not great over the actual event but there was still plenty of action going on in Shallow Inlet and on the SUPs.

Winter is typically when Victoria scores consistent conditions - cross offshore winds and solid swells. 2011 was the worst year I can remember with very few frontal systems delivering the goods. That said there were still a couple of good surfing days in between the rare sailing sessions.

Cairns is a great place to escape the cold months and is also where I used to call home. Green Island on the Great Barrier Reef is a great place to relax and get some time on the water with the tradewinds typically blowing upwards of 20 knots most days.

Maui is Mecca for windsurfers - especially over the months of March and April when companies typically hold their photoshoots. The swell was on the small side most of the time, and when it was pumping the crowds were insane with the best in the world fighting it out to score the cover shot!

Tasmania's West Coast is one of my favourite windsurfing locations offering pristine, empty beaches and sick conditions. Over two weeks in February we scored a mix of jumping, mast high down the line riding and some surfing to top it off.
